California Man Allegedly Calls 911 to Say He Strangled Mom

A 26-year-old man was arrested Monday after he allegedly called 911 and reported he strangled his mother at their home in Orange, California.

“He said he strangled his mother and she was dead,” Orange Police Department Sgt. Phil McMullin tells PEOPLE.

McMullin alleges Brandon Sanchez called 911 at 2:45 p.m. and said that he killed his 53-year-old mother Jamie Greene after a domestic dispute. “When you hear a call go out you hope he is hallucinating and it is not true,” he says. “This was a case where it actually happened.”

Police responded to the 5800 block of Ridgemont Court and were able to get Sanchez to come outside, where he was detained. Officers then went inside and found Greene dead on the first floor.

McMullin says Sanchez lived at the house with his mother and stepfather. There were no prior police calls for assistance at the house, he says.

“It is a house in a nice part of town in Orange,” he says.

Sanchez, who is currently in Orange County Jail, is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow.

He has not entered a plea and it was not immediately clear if he had retained a lawyer.
